Just had the rug yanked out from underneath me.

Applied for an amazing job. Interviewed for said job and today I was told I got the job. During the interview they told me this was a full time internship. All web postings and official postings say full time.

internship. All web postings and official postings say full time. They call me about the job and I accept enthusiastically because it's an INCREDIBLE opportunity. Cannot stress that enough.

Then in the phone call HR guy lets slip the words “part time.” I say, wait this is a full time job that's what the hiring manager and the websites say. He calls back ten minutes later saying
  • 06
that the hiring manager thought full time was 20 hours for an internship. (Which it's not. I'm currently working a 40 hour internship in the same department for proof)
  • 07
I'm devestated. There's no way I can accept with no benefits and a long commute for just 20 hours. Plus I'd have to get a second or maybe even third job while I'm in school. I'm just so angry.

Edit: thank you all so much for your kind words and similar stories. I've felt so stupid crying over this when I'm so lucky compared to other people, but truly you all have made me feel a bit better. I'm going to hold

stalkerofthed d OP. 13 hr. ago Yeah... doesn't make it hurt any less though. Currently crying in a stairwell. This has been weeks of buildup and interviews. Tottally would have taken it, but I need benefits though, stupid chronic conditions. Wouldn't even have applied if I knew it was part time.

stalkerofthedad OP · 8 hr. ago I would but I work in the same department (MASSIVE) company. I don't want to dox myself, and I really want a job in this field. Doing so could really, really, hurt my prospects in the future.

nun_gut. 7 hr. ago Ask to go to half time in your current role, and the other half on the internship.

stalkerofthed d OP 6 hr. ago Not a possibility. Although it's the same department, the buildings are 40 minutes apart from each other.

IamtheRealDill · 10 hr. ago That's super • . I've been noticing a lot of bait and switch type job postings recently.... I don't get it, it just wastes everybody's time.

shoobidoobis · 8 hr. ago i legit had something similar happen to me last week. everything said it was a full time senior position. by the time i was supposed to start, it devolved to a contract to hire entry level job.

they claimed they informed me of this at the beginning of the interview process, and they 100% did not. now im back to being unemployed.

stalkerofthed ad OP · 8 hr. ago To be fair, HR seemed super baffled by the whole situation. Had no idea why he was saying full time when it was really part time.
